Why good menstrual hygiene management is crucial to the success of WASH services

Menstrual hygiene is a very important part of improving access to water, sanitation and hygiene programmes (WASH). There are several aspects to menstrual hygiene management (MHM) including education, access to sustainable sanitary materials and improved facilities. MHM must include everyone from women and girls, to boys and men, and people with disabilities. This briefing focuses on MHM in the context of India, where there are many cultural taboos and beliefs to overcome, however there is already a strong movement to improve MHM.
