For the Environment

For the Environment

We rely on water to drink, to wash, to grow food. But water is even more vital – the very future of our planet relies on it. Landscapes enriched by water are healthier and are able to absorb more carbon dioxide, mitigating the impacts of climate change.

Water for climate recovery

When water is restored to a landscape, soils and wetlands regain their ability to store carbon, ecosystems become more resilient and rivers are better able to withstand heatwaves, droughts, and floods so life can flourish around them.

Climate-resilient water

Climate-resilient WASH is the central focus of how we plan and deliver our programmes. Combining science, traditional knowledge and community participation means that locally led approaches secure water now and for the future; resilient to extreme weather events. With secure, clean water, communities thrive and nature is protected.

Nature-based solutions

Working with the land, the weather and the whole ecosystem brings long term biodiversity benefits alongside human wellbeing.

Nature based solutions is an umbrella term for many aspects of Frank Water’s work – spring rejuvenation, watershed management, water harvesting, agricultural best management practices and planting of trees or native grasses are just some of the ways we work with nature to protect and restore water.

Water dialogues

In discussions around climate change and the environment, water is often left out of the conversation. Businesses and communities depend on the same watershed, but rarely have the opportunity to work together to protect them. We coordinate discussions with policy makers, business leaders, community members, and governments – working together to design sustainable, climate resilient water plans, backed by robust data, practical tools and solutions.

Sustainable Festival Refill Service
We partner with some of the UK’s most values-led events to reduce single-use plastic and raise awareness of water scarcity. We do this through providing a water refill service, managed by volunteers, serving filtered water and refillable bottles. We ensure sustainability is at the heart of every event.

At our festivals each year we save the equivalent of 50,000 single-use plastic bottles from landfill and at least 4 tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.

The SDGs and our environmental work

Water underpins each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it is fundamental to how we tackle the climate crisis. Over-extraction, pollution, and mismanagement are harming our water sources, but given a chance, water’s life can flow back.
