Outdoor Team Bonding River Clean Ups

Frank Water has teamed up with two incredible Bristol-based organisations, SUP Bristol and Sea Cycler to offer our business supporters the opportunity to get out on the water and help clear up our waterways!

Frank Water’s work restores water and addresses contamination for thriving habitats, ecosystems and communities globally. Humans cannot live without water, and it is essential to vibrant ecosystems. The amount of freshwater stored on land and underground has plummeted in the past decade, and urgent action is needed.

There are ways we can support and take care of the rivers and waterways in this country too. Frank Water works with select organisations to provide safe river clean up opportunities here in the UK.

SUP Bristol River Clean Up

River Clean Up on Stand Up Paddleboards & Kayaks with SUP Bristol

This activity would include learning the basics of Stand Up Paddleboarding (or kayak), alongside the well established SUP Bristol, based down at Baltic Wharf. SUP Bristol take the team off on a journey up the river collecting litter and helping to restore our beautiful riverways.

If it is a larger group, often SUP Bristol will split the larger group into teams and make this a bit competitive to add an extra element of fun. The teams could take different routes and compare the litter haul at the end.

Litter Picking with Sea Cycler

Did you know that 80% of the litter in our oceans gets there from land through our rivers and waterways? (Eunomia, 2016). Much of this is single-use plastic items such as food and drink packaging, cotton buds and wet wipes. Plastics in our waterways can harm wildlife or breakdown into tiny pieces of plastics, known as microplastics. Microplastics take even longer to break down, and continue to harm sea life, and even finds itself back onto land and our plates, and in our water – though the long-term impact on our health is unknown.

Litter fishing brings plastic and marine pollution issues to life, right in the heart of Bristol’s thriving harbour.

Boat trips for up to 9 people at a time (max. weight 810kg), with groups rotating. There are plenty of options to keep the land based crew busy whilst waiting for their turn to go plastic fishing – the Sea Cycler team can recommend plenty of ideas!
