Our Research

There are plenty of reasons why 1 in 10 people in the world have no safe water and 1 in 3 have no toilet. But it would be difficult to understand what the causes of this crisis are without organisations, like FRANK Water, that work at community level and carry out their own research.

Research with NGO Partners

As part of our work with NGO Partners, we support all partners to undertake research into different areas of WASH. This research informs our work, shares our learning and helps shape our future projects. Research projects include a study into behaviour change and health improvements.

FRANK Water is one of global engineering firm, Arup’s Strategic Partners for 2016-2019. With Arup, we’re developing a tool to assess the environmental impact of WASH projects. More recently, we’ve kickstarted the WASH Basins project - utilising the principles of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) to support sustainable and inclusive water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services.

Research at Home

Over the last 10 years, FRANK Water’s R&D has been mainly UK-based. We’ve supported two PhD students to complete their thesis and we’ve managed and benefited from a fruitful and ongoing relationship with Engineers without Borders who produce new research all the time.
